Jolly Roger Slots
There are plenty of pirate themed slot machines out there, with almost every major game developer having a fair few to their name. Jolly Roger from Simbat is one of the latest to enter the fray, but it feels like a classic slot machine in pretty much every way. It’s a whole lot of fun, but falls behind a bit in terms of graphics.
It’s still really well made and worth taking for a spin, if you’ll pardon the pun. The game features two bonus rounds, along with wilds and scatter bonuses to keep the wins coming.
Overall, Jolly Roger appears on the surface to be one of the more basic Simbat online slots offerings, but don’t let its basic nature fool you, as there is rip-roaring game located beneath the surface. Here is why we rate this new game and why you should definitely try on for size given the chance…
Basking in the Open Sea Sunshine
The symbols in Jolly Roger are nice and bright for starters, as the game features basic animations such as crossing swords. Each win also comes with a nice little sound effect. You’re treated to the sound of cannons and a lively calypso tune when the riches fall. Hitting the bonus games also triggers some other animations and break out screens.
Racking Up the Coins
Forgoing the complications, Jolly Roger gives players exactly what they want, which is a symbol-driven slots experience. The good old skull and crossbones Jolly Roger flag is the most valuable symbol there is in this title, as it is worth 10,000 coins for landing five and still a generous 1,000 coins for four. It also serves as the wild symbol; taking the place of any other symbol except for the scatter or bonus icons. All wins involving the wild symbol are also doubled.
Diamonds Are Forever
The diamond qualifies as the most valuable “normal” symbol in Jolly Roger, as it is worth 1,250 for 5. The ruby ring grabs you 500 coins and the gold coin gets you 250. The other symbols are the ship, cannons, the pirate, and the swords. Jolly Roger doesn’t include playing card symbols, which is a nice touch, as most players will agree that such had become a little samey as of late.
Parrot in the Hat
The scatter bonus is the parrot in a hat. Getting five of these symbols, no matter where they are on the reels, gives you 500x your bet. The other symbols in the game are the various bonus symbols. There are three pieces of a treasure map that show up on the first 3 reels. Landing all three-treasure map pieces opens up the Map Bonus. Chests also trigger a bonus game, with a game opening up with 3, 4, or 5 chests. How much you can win is determined by how many chests there are on screen.
Digging for Buried Treasure
Looking at the side-games in more detail, in both you make choices that lead to prizes, but they’re still very different experiences. The map bonus opens up a treasure map with five red crosses. You choose three crosses and set the pirates to work digging up the chests. Each chest contains a different cash amount. The crosses are in different places each time you open up the map.
Chest After Chest
With the chest bonus, as mentioned above, you’re just given five chests to choose from in a cave. You make two choices and the size of your winnings depends on the amount of chests used to trigger the bonus. If you hit five chests you can win up to 4,000 coins, 4 chests comes with a potential of 3,000 coins, and 3 chests has a maximum win of 2,000 coins.
Get Ready to Set Sail
Jolly Roger is a 15-line slot that lets you alter how many lines you play. You can change how much your coins are worth and make a bet of up to 5 coins per line. The smallest bet you can make is just one penny on one line, so 0.15 will unlock all 15 paylines. With this in mind, the biggest bet you can make in Jolly Roger is $18.75 per spin. It should also be noted that the game features an auto-play mode that can be configured to stop at certain times and under certain criteria.
Riding the Waves on the Jolly Roger!
It might not be the best pirate themed slot in the world, but it still does an excellent job with the theme and provides smooth gameplay as a result. It’s a shame that it falls behind other Simbat games, but Jolly Roger is still highly enjoyable and definitely worth a spin or two.
