City of Gold Online Slot Machine
Is there a slot software maker out there that does not have at least one Aztec-themed title? I cannot think of any! City of Gold is a colourful and smooth slot based on the ancient civilizations of South America. It might not have the cutting edge graphics of Gonzo’s Quest, or the mega-jackpot of RTG’s Aztec Millions, though this is a solid and enjoyable video slot. I like the pick-em game, which is complex enough to keep you entertained – though the bigger money will often come via the free spins bonus round.
This is one of the better efforts from Saucify as far as the graphics are concerned. The colours are vivid, the shading excellent and the animations (for example the spinning globe jewel) are very smooth. There is a drum led background track which does contribute to the atmosphere, I have a feeling you’d need to switch if off for extra-long sessions though. Symbols are the classic statues, jewels and even a crystal skull which reminded me of the later Indiana Jones film. The playing card symbols are stylized and nicely decorated. Win sounds are a gripe of mine on many Saucify games. On this one they are better (less jarring), though the game could still use a little more speed when cycling through the different wins after each spin.
In addition to the pick-em game, there is a free spins round included – this can be triggered with a multiplier of up to 5x on any wins. With wins doubled when they include a wild, this can mean that the free spins bonus is where the bigger wins come from for this particular game.
Setup and Play for City of Gold
This game has 20 win lines, which you can choose from. You also get to choose the number of coins per line as well as the coin amount –giving a wide range of spin costs. 1c coins and 1 coin per line means you can spin for just 20c. High rollers can choose 25c coins, 5 per line and spin for $25 instead. You can select auto spin, for anything up to 100 spins at a time.
In common with most Saucify slots, the wild symbol has the effect of doubling wins that it is involved in. The broach that twists in different directions is the wild in this game; it pays out a generous 6000 coins for 5 on a line. As usual this does not substitute for the bonus or scatter symbols.
The crystal skull has the next biggest prize. This is worth 2000 coins for 5, and 200 for 4 on a line. The golden statue, stone statue, necklace and animal type statue are the remaining regular symbols. Playing cards ace down to 10 make up the smaller wins.
There are two scatter symbols, which pay out for 3+ anywhere on the reels. One is the free spins scatter, which is a top-down view of a pyramid temple. You’ll get 9 spins for 5 temples, 6 for 4 and 3 for 3. The other scatter is the liquid gold sign – this takes you to the feature bonus round and also has a scatter pay out. 5 of these win you 100x your total spin amount, with 20x for 4 and 5x for 3.
City of Gold Bonus Games
Free spins is a simple enough feature. Other than the information on the number of spins you have left and your accumulated total wins, the game is the same. All wins are tripled (this can include those with wilds, which are first doubled and then tripled). The number of spins seems low compared to some games – though these can be retriggered while playing for 3, 6 or 9 more each time.
The liquid gold bonus game is unique and about as entertaining as a pick-em game can be. You’ll go to a break out screen and choose from 3 stone statues. The rest of the action takes place underneath, where you have to decide what path the poured gold will take. Along the way you will get different prizes, and choose to twist special spigots to decide where the gold does. The graphics and setup are excellent, though fundamentally this is a game of chance. It will keep you entertained for the first few times you see it at least.
City of Gold – Conclusion
My initial thoughts of ‘oh no, not another Aztec slot’ proved to be ill-founded. This is actually a very good game, and better than many I have played based on the same topic. The graphics are excellent, and having 2 bonus features will keep you interested for a while. While the Liquid Gold bonus is the entertaining one, the bigger money should come from the free spins with 3x on all wins.
