Aunt Bev looks like she should be making baked goods. After all, she’s literally a woman in an apron and oven mitts. What do baking and bingo have in common? Here’s a spoiler for you: not that much.
One thing’s for sure: Aunt Bev’s site reinforces the very tired stereotype that bingo is a game for sweet old ladies. We’ve known that’s not true for decades, and bingo sites in 2018 should really push boundaries a bit more than that. Ignoring all that, is the site worth checking out? We sought to answer that question in our Aunt Bev’s review, and the answer is a resounding ‘meh’. All in all, this is a generic, run-of-the-mill site with not that much going for it.
Before we get to the nitty-gritty of Aunt Bev’s, we think it’s worth mentioning that this is yet another site operated by the infamous Cassava Enterprises. The company operates thousands of casino and bingo sites, and while some are better than others, most are atrociously bland.
Aunt Bev’s might look a little more interesting than most of these sites as far as theme and design go, but we’ve personally found the site to be lacking in terms of quality and features. It’s just what we expected from a Cassava-operated site. One advantage the site does have is that it’s licensed in the UK, but it’s not like UK players are short of options nowadays. Nonetheless, you might still read through our review and like the site after all.
Aunt Bev has a series of decent but unspectacular bonuses for you on your first three deposits. There are two main kinds of perks here: match bonuses and free spins that are awarded based on the size of your deposit. Bingo bonuses are all subject to very low wagering requirements, which justifies the smallness of these awards overall. On the other hand, wagering requirements for winnings on instant games are absurdly high. If you like having various smaller awards with no bonus codes, then this package may appeal to you, but it didn’t wow us much.
Terms and conditions apply to all bonuses and promotions. Players 18 years old and above only. Play responsibly.
If you’re a fan of frequent promotions, then Aunt Bev’s might get your attention yet. There are quite a few weekly promotions here, and each of them is different in its own way. The most popular of the lot is the Wacky Wings promotion, which gives players the chance to win all sorts of prizes from cash to electronics and vouchers. Other offers include the chance to win shared jackpots, real-life holidays, and even benefits you’ll get for liking the page on social media.
Players who really like to keep abreast of every single promotion offered at a bingo or casino site will be happy to know they can sign up to Bev’s Mail. This will let you know about every single new bonus and promotion that springs up. We do question some of the inclusions here, like one so-called promotion called Play on Mobile. This one isn’t a promotion at all, but just a page explaining that players can play from their phone. That’s not a perk. That should be a given.
All in all, though, the offers here are not bad. However, we will say that in relation to the overall quality of the site, we wouldn’t get too excited about the promotions here. There are plenty of other sites which offer a similar level of choice and variety.
Bingo, Slingo and Slots
If you click on the games section before signing up, the first question you'll ask is inevitably going to be ‘where’s the bingo?’ There’s an FAQ page that tells you all about the different kinds of bingo and how to play them – but if you want these bingo rooms to even be visible to you, you’ll have to set up an account. There are a few slingo options – that is to say, a hybrid of slots and bingo. Or, to give a slightly better explanation, it's a game of bingo played on slot reels with a few added features. These slingo games are kind of clever and good fun. We particularly enjoyed Slingo: Rainbow Riches, which is a fun take on one of our favourite slot games.
You can even find a few regular slots and other instant titles. But honestly, the numbers are so small here that they’re not worth your consideration. This lobby is only worth a look if you plan on playing bingo primarily and slots every now and then. Either way, other bingo sites offer a better range of slots.
You can contact Aunt Bev’s team the usual way – via email and phone. Live chat is missing, which is a bit puzzling considering that every other gambling site in the world seems to have caught on to that trend. That said, there is a support chat option available when you're playing bingo. What seems somewhat helpful is that there is a different contact email for Player Support and Promotions Support, which should get you quicker and better-tailored help.
We suggest you skip over the FAQ section, which only takes you through a few points on how to play bingo. We would have liked to see some more useful info relating to the casino features, such as how to bank and what the average RTP of the slots is.
The banking at Aunt Bev’s is fine. There are a few of the most commonly used payment methods, so although the range is not massive, it’s unlikely that you don’t already use at least one of them. Since this is a UK-licensed casino, we think it’s fair to say that there’s a level of security you can expect when making payments here.
Does Aunt Bev Need a New Hobby?
Overall, this is a really average bingo site – and when a site is average, it could mean one of two things. It might indicate a site that's new and fresh but showing promising signs of moving on to better ideas. That’s not what’s happening here. This is the kind of painstakingly, never-going-to-change kind of average we’ve seen one too many times with Cassava-owned brands. So, we can say safely that this site is always going to be somewhat lazy in terms of what it can offer to players.
Sure, it’s not all bad. The promotions are decent and the Slingo options are admittedly fun. But these are all things you can get at other sites that will do both those things better. Those sites will also offer a more interesting range of games, and more reasons to keep playing. Sorry, Aunt Bev, you'll need to shape up or stick to baking.
