Spin the Gold Slot
Every four years, the world gathers in one of the greatest celebrations of sportsmanship and fair play. The Olympic Games are probably a rare occasion to witness humanity come together and peacefully compete.
Spin the Gold is a video slot game designed by Neogames that focuses on this one of a kind sports event and tries to replicate the fervour and the excitement that characterise the Games. And it does so by rethinking the very concept of what a slot game is and how it is place. This has to go head to head with games like Olympic Champion, so get ready for some innovative ideas here!

Right in the Heart of the Stadium
Spin the Gold is all about the excitement of an international sports competition, and what best place to illustrate this than a giant crowded stadium?
The game takes place right in the middle of such an arena, at night, with the bleachers filled to the brim with an enthusiastic crowd gathered under bright lights and a row of flags. You can catch a glimpse of the centre field and the running tracks as well.
Expect some cheering as you play Spin the Gold, all these elements working towards an immersive and well-designed game universe.
A Redesigned Gameplay
As promised earlier, Spin the Gold brings new gameplay elements to the table that will challenge the way players frame video slot games.
What you will notice right from the start is the presence of three giant medals in the middle of the game screen. The bronze and silver medals serve as background elements, but the gold medal is where the action is actually going to take place. Indeed, instead of the usual three to five vertical reels you are probably accustomed to now, you will have three circular wheels covered in 16 symbols each to spin and bet on.
Use the commands located at the bottom of the game screen in order to customise your settings. The appropriate (+) and (-) buttons will help you modify the number of paylines you want to activate (up to eight) and the amount of your wager as well. The Turbo function will let the wheels spin faster, and the Autoplay function is still there for players who like to bed uninterrupted. Click the tab at the bottom right-hand corner to find out more about the slots Autoplay settings. You can also go all-in with the central Max Bet button, or stick to the base game and click the green Spin button right in the middle of the wheels to place your bet and start the spinning motion.
Close-Up on the Reel Symbols
A click on the Paytable button will flip the gold medal over to reveal the symbol menu of Spin the Gold.
Here you will see that there are a total of nine different symbols spinning around. The first ones are card icons (Jack, Queen and King), but the rest is directly inspired by the Olympic Games and the some of the various disciplines they involve.
We begin with Fencing, Table Tennis and Handball, and finish the list with Football and Weightlifting. The final symbol is a Gold Medal, of course. Wins are determined by different combinations appearing on an activated payline, with each combination consisting of either two or three identical symbols. The Gold Medal is of course the most rewarding symbol of all, able to trigger the highest cash reward: 10,000 times your starting bet!
Spincredible, or Not?
Spin the Gold introduces a completely new definition of what a slot game should look like. Its circular gameplay is perfectly integrated within its universe and it makes sense to use the round shape of the gold medal to incorporate the reels – in the shape of spinning wheels this time around.
This being said, the symbol design is rather simplistic and does not really reflect the level of detail work that was put in designing the background of the game, for instance. It could have also been interesting to see how special symbols such as Wilds and Scatters could be integrated in such a circular display. Hard-core Olympics fans will perhaps lament the absence of a Bonus game with a sports theme, which could have been a lot of fun to play between two spins of the wheels. Spin the Gold is still a well-designed and innovative slot game that is worth a try!
