Lucky Larry’s Lobstermania 3 Slots
For the rest of this review, let’s just assume we know I am talking about the third title in this series and let me call this New England lobster fishing game just Lucky Larry’s, typing out that tongue twisting game title is hard on a reviewers fingers! The first two games in this series Larry was actually a lobster, he’s now been replaced by a cheery fisherman resplendent in a bright yellow mac and sporting a salty sea dogs pipe.
It isn’t all that’s changed from the first two games either, Lucky Larry’s new casino slot can now be played as either a 50 fixed pay-line or 720 ways to win machine, just swipe the screen to swap between game modes. You will also get a generous amount of 3D animation on the new slot as well as a new 5 reel 3/4/5/4/3 row format and some new bonus rounds to play with. Nothing fishy about the prizes either as the game has a major and minor progressive jackpot to aim for.
Maybe lobster fishing isn’t your thing or you didn’t like the original Lucky Larry’s game, perhaps you watched one too many episodes of Deadliest Catch and prefer the more glamorous life of the crab fisherman! Regardless of the all that you will definitely want to get your sea legs back and give this a few spins, trying to unlock the bounty of the deep ocean!
Theme & Features
As to be expected we get a lot of aquatic imagery here! The game reels themselves are back-dropped by a fishing town styled beach, covered in the flotsam and jetsam you would expect in a working fishing village. The reel frame is barnacle and sea salt encrusted wood with a variety of ship buoys hanging from the sides. Standard reel pay symbols range from Tuna and Starfish to a lighthouse and speed boat, a quick flick at the game pay-table will outline your rewards for each symbol.
What has really improved in the new game is the inbuilt features, stacked wilds still appear but there are new bonus triggers and a new scatter. The scattering lobster pots appear on the reels and grant you extra credits, free spins or features on your next spin such as multipliers, wilds and stacked symbols called King stacks which can combine very nicely for larger wins.
Land 3, 4 or 5 ships wheels on your reel symbols to initiate the big wheel bonus and get 1, 2 or 3 spins on the wheel of fortune style bonus wheel, this can grant you a credit prize, one of the progressives or can trigger the buoy bonus feature, which can also be trigged with the correct bonus symbols in the base game.
The buoy bonus can be played in two modes, classic in the format of the previous games or in a new 7 free games format. In the latter you pick from one of three of the original lobster Larry characters who will grant you a number of buoy bonus picks, up to four picks are available. For each pick you make Larry will hoist in a buoy from the back of his fishing boat, you can win spins, wilds, king stacks credits or multipliers for your 7 free spins!
The buoy bonus round is full of animation series and seems to last forever even though it is only 7 spins to begin with, you also get a lot of optional interaction here and you feel much more immersed in the game outcome than in a traditional free spins round, this is definitely the highlight of the game overall.
Summary
The new version is great fun no doubt about it, it has a unique charm to it which is both cheesy and cute at the same time, player interaction is good and with two progressives there is potential for big rewards to occasionally be fished out of the water. I don’t think you will see too many big wins in the base game however, as that did appear to have a very low volatility aspect. Overall we like it and at least it wasn’t deafening me like the Brittany Spears slot next door!
