The Brig Slots
What better way to see the world than from the deck of The Brig? This ship has plenty of journeys to its name, and it’ll help you to get a better understanding of Capecod Gaming and the slot machine industry in general. No wonder so many seamen are boarding this vessel and taking to unknown waters - they seek adventure and wealth, in equal measure.
Comprised of 5 reels and just 15 winlines, this slot is smaller than your average online real cash title, however that doesn’t mean it’s disappointing. Quite the opposite. There are three bonus levels which you can unlock, a mightily impressive number for such a compact little game. Each level offers something slightly different to the last, but the final prize is always large wads of cash.
Even if cash isn’t your end game but rather enjoyment is, you’re in luck because this ship doesn’t need money in order to sail: just start up the demo version and you’ll get all the perks, but without the cost. Perfect for those of you looking to ‘try before you buy’, or who have no money to splash.
Captain’s Quarters
Where the captain sleeps is always much nicer than where the rest of the crew rests their weary heads, and supposedly for good reason. Whether you agree with those reasons are immaterial at this point, for we’re too busy taking in the beauty of the cabin you’re now calling home. She’s quite the beauty, so why oh why are there such a clashing set of images?
The Brig has a nautical theme throughout, that much is true, and however some of the images are more in-keeping with the aesthetic than others, like the jellyfish. This symbol, and a few others, have a photorealistic edge, the graphics attempting to make them look as real as physically possible via our devices. And yet other icons, such as the sailing woman and compass, are cartoonier. This isn’t a massive issue, but it goes a long way in making the game feel amateurish rather than professional, which doesn’t stand the brand in good stead.
Virtual Women Ahoy!
There we were, just spinning along, minding our own business, when three wild symbols stacked up and turned into an expanding icon. Then we were presented with a bikini-clad lady, wiggling her bottom as coins showered around her; you couldn’t make this sort of thing up, even if you tried. As unexpected as it was, it didn’t feel necessary for the game – if you’d been fishing or harpooning whales, maybe then we could have got behind the idea. But this, well it simply feels like a means to sex up the slot, when that’s not what the theme is all about.
Pick a Pearl
You’ll have seen that there are two scatter symbols, a pearl inside a clam and a ship; each of them can trigger their own bonuses, and they can also activate one when they appear together. One of the bonuses associated in the separate rounds is the Pearl Bonus, only triggered when three or more pearl icons are found upon the grid.
Once you’ve managed this, which is pretty hard to do, you’ll be shown the inside of a cabin, with several of the objects able to be interacted with; select them in a bid to find three pearls. Do that and you win, but fail and you’ll just receive coin prizes that pale in comparison to the booty of the pearls.
It’s a simple level in all honesty, but it’s nice to move away from free games and partake in an experience more hands on and engaging; we’ve become so used to being left out in bonus rounds that The Brig came as a surprise. And it’s not the only level to explore, though we’ll leave that up to you to discover, it’s more fun that way.
Captain, My Captain
Capecod Gaming may not have created the best slot machine in the world, but they’ve done a good job at developing an interactive matrix that’s content is more gripping than its looks. We wanted variance and we got it, a lot of it even, and while the aesthetic could do with some minor touch ups, overall the end result is a good one.
