Patrick’s Pub Slot
There is something about Irish folklore that keeps on inspiring slot game developers. The numerous references to luck and lucky charms are probably playing a role in that. The developers at Booongo certainly weren’t immune to the trend, which explains why they released Patrick’s Pub, a video slot game that simply couldn’t be more Irish.
The team has managed to pack Patrick’s Pub with all the classic feature of a modern slot game. Add some good graphics on top, a low variance and a couple of surprises, and there you have Patrick’s Pub. Probably not the most original game that you can try, but still solid nonetheless. Let’s discover it in our full review here.
Time for a Beer
Patrick’s Pub is obviously taking place inside a typical Irish pub. Every sort of beer you can think of is on the menu. Bottled or from the tap, just look around in the green glow of the pub and take your pick. The rings themselves are floating above the bar, which contains a small command bar.
Patrick’s Pub sticks to a classic Irish look, as far as slot games from the same family go. The graphic quality is more polished than most of the competition, however, which makes Patrick’s Pub stand out positively on the market. Otherwise, we are going to have to look beyond the surface and examine the gameplay to find more original elements in the game.
Let's Get Started
Patrick’s Pub works as a modern slot game with 5 reels and 20 paylines, while the betting range is a little smaller than expected: from 0.20 to 100 credits per turn. Simply use the arrows on the command bar to pick your next wager and you are ready to go. The paylines are fixed, but you can still use the bet max button to go all-in or the autoplay shortcut to keep the reels spinning on their own. Patrick’s Pub even has a turbo mode, just to speed up the gameplay altogether.
You will find all the classic card icons in Patrick’s Pub, plus beer pints, shamrocks, green top hats and all the usual Irish paraphernalia that seems to be common to all Irish slot games. You can win up to x750 in the base game, but the lower volatility of Patrick’s Pub will make it much more likely that you will keep on hitting smaller prizes over and over again - so be ready to play all-in as much as possible.
Surprise Wins
The Booongo developers couldn’t have been more classic when it comes to the bonus features of Patrick’s Pub. First of all, you have a pot of gold symbol that plays the role of the wild card. It can therefore replace the other icons on the reels, multiplying your chances to score a win during the game. Wild combinations award up to 1500 times your wager, and find a pot of gold on reels 1 and 5 at the same time triggers an instant free respin.
If you are looking for the scatters, keep an eye out for the leprechauns. 3 of them appearing on the reels at the same time award 10 free spins. You can retrigger this feature at will when finding more leprechauns during the free games. Note that we found the scatters to be a little rare in Patrick’s Pub, and only available on reels 2, 3 and 4.
A Large Family
As you will notice soon, Patrick’s Pub features a very standard gameplay. Octoberfest from Booming Games or Playtech’s Daredevil are going to feel very familiar after a short while, as they are based on the exact same gameplay as Patrick’s Pub. You could actually look around the entire market and find many other similar slots.
Irish games are more popular as even, and titles like Irish Luck from Playtech became iconic of the genre. You can win more free spins at once there, but the higher volatility can actually make scoring big wins tougher than in Patrick’s Pub. We recommend that you try out both and see which one fits your style best.
Honest but Not Revolutionary
Patrick’s Pub is what we like to call a solid slot game. Nothing very extravagant, but all the basic features that players love. Despite a lower volatility, we were able to keep on winning decent prizes as we tested the game. The more you risk, the more you will win and the wilds will come in handy in your endeavour.
The part we were most pleased with was the graphic quality of the game. Patrick’s Pub has a rather realistic look and stays clear from some of the Irish stereotypes that we were used to seeing in other slots. The game still has leprechauns and pints of beer, just so you know you won’t be totally lost either.
