Snow White & The Poison Apple Slot Machine
Of all the fairy tales to have been commandeered by Disney, Snow White has to be the most enduring. All of the elements that make for a spellbinding story are present and accounted for: a beautiful princess, an evil stepmother, a cast of cheerful anthropomorphic animals and of course a bunch of dwarves to provide comic value with a side order of WTF.
The poison apple never falls too far from the tree and in Snow White & The Poison Apple, Betsoft have stuck with what they know, conjuring a game that is typical of everything the developer have done before. That’s not to say this is a derivative game however; simply that its workings will be familiar to anyone who’s ever spun the reels of any other Betsoft slot.
Fortune in the Forest
Snow White & The Poison Apple is a 5-reel slot with 25 paylines and a line bet that can be set between 0.01 and 5. The game, which was released in 2013 – a prolific year for Betsoft by all accounts – has a progressive jackpot as well as free spins, wild and scatter symbols. All of the game symbols, even those with playing card values displayed, have some kind of character attached; often it’s a dwarf but there’s also the princes, witch and of course Snow White herself.
Three scatters in view will trigger free spins; the symbol itself is a castle and is marked as Bonus. 10 free spins are up for grabs, with any wins that are generated accompanied by a 2x multiplier. It’s possible to retrigger the feature if another three scatter appear while collecting your spins. There are also a few special bonuses that can kick in during free spins, namely Mirror Multiplier, Cave Wilds and Apple Pick.
If Mirror Multiplier appears at the start of a spin, you will be granted a multiplier of anywhere from 2-5x. With Cave Wilds, all scatters will be converted into wilds and additional wilds may be added up to a maximum of three. Finally, with Apple Pick three rings will appear on the reels, whereupon you’ll simply have to select one to discover the value of the prize you’ve won.
Lots in Common
If you’re looking for a game that plays in a manner not too dissimilar from Snow White & The Poison Apple, there are plenty of contenders, most of which seem to have been built by Microgaming. They’re a prolific bunch, and games such as Lost Princess Anastasia and Roller Derby have a lot in common with this Betsoft effort, even though these games dispense only five free spins apiece.
Closer still though are a couple of RTG games, starting with El Luchador. It’s got the same number of paylines as Snow White & The Poison Apple, an RTP of 91-97% and 10 free spins accompanied by a multiplier of between 2x and 5x. RTG’s other slot that’s pretty close in terms of features is Dragon Princess. Its characteristics mirror those of El Luchador. If you’re simply seeking another fairy tale slot in a similar vein to Snow White & The Poison Apple, you might enjoy something such as Snow Queen Riches, another 25 payline, 10 free spins slot, this one from 2 By 2.
It’s Snow Joke!
Snow White & The Poison Apple is a game that works well, not least on account of the story it’s based on, one that everyone can recall and relate to. The key plot points and props from the story surface in the game, primarily in the form of the various bonuses that can be triggered during free spins. During the base game, there’s not a whole lot to keep you captivated, but if you make it as far as free spins, things start to pick up dramatically.
Graphics have never really been Betsoft’s strongest point and while Snow White & The Poison Apple doesn’t look bad, it’s by no means a work of art. Even Snow White herself, who was supposed to be the fairest maiden in the entire kingdom, looks like a 6/10 here. Still, these grumbles aside, Snow White & The Poison Apple is a perfectly passable slot.
