I’ve seen my fair share of wacky new online slots recently, so far this year it was iSoftBet’s insane Cloud Tales title which was the stand-out incredibly weird game/theme, now that I have played Birds by Betsoft, we have a new contender for both crazy slot play and possibly, one of the best new online slots available!

Theme
If you don’t like cute and funny, fly away now and migrate to the south, because Birds is absolutely packed with adorable 3D animated avian friends, who perch on the wires of an electricity pylon in the countryside (for the base game) and in the heart of the city (for the bonus round). The music and special effects are equally cartoonish and cutesy, though strangely not irritating at all, the balance is just right between being fun and following the game style without intruding on your sanity.
There is no old fashioned playing card icons, or indeed any other traditional slot game symbol to be found anywhere on this game, the high pay icons are 10 different animated birds, each with their own coloured plumage and unique in game personality. There is a wild, but true to the rest of the game theme this is a multi-coloured wild bird rather than a game logo, capable of substituting for all symbols.
Gameplay & Features
Birds does away with spins entirely, which is something of a novelty for a slot game, whilst still retaining a 5x3 reel structure, how does it do that I hear you ask? Well, each time you press spin, you will find 15 birds flying in, literally, to take their place on the powerlines. This isn’t of course, the first time this has been done on a slot game that honour goes to the similarly quirky Bird on a Wire by Thunderkick.
Rather than electrocuting the unsuspecting flock, Birds grants you wins for any combination of matching birds which lands in the horizontal or vertical. Winning combinations of birds will then fly away, the birds above drop down similarly to the avalanche feature in Gonzo’s quest and you get a new chance of hitting a fresh combination.
The big win potential on Birds is via the free flight system, which loosely translates as free spins, each winning flight which follows on from another fills the free flight bar to the left of the screen, the more flights in a row you get, after a minimum of four to trigger the free spins, adds more and more free flights, in fact in theory, they are unlimited.
The last noteworthy feature is a traditional gamble game, after each and every win in the base game, you get the option to flip a golden coin for heads and tails, you can bet either 50% or 100% of your existing win if you feel like taking your chances!
Summary
Birds is a simple game to play once you get the hang of it, it manages to seamlessly combine a unique funny theme with a very uncomplicated style of gameplay, which we think will be a big hit and a contender for one of the best slots out there online. With a decent win potential and betting range, this should appeal to many types of slot gamers.
