Star Slot Machine
Star Slots is a sci fi themed slot game from provider Arrow’s Edge, who are usually more well known for brightly coloured fun themes such as Showcase or Shopping in the Hills. With Star Slots and medieval game Game of Kings we can see they’re trying to target a slightly different audience, with this one aimed at the sci fi fans out there. With the recent revival of the Star Wars franchise, it’s a smart choice of theme.
This intergalactic adventure game is a 5 reel, 20 payline slot which like many of Arrow’s Edge’s other games is linked to a progressive jackpot in addition to its 1,000 coin maximum payout. The jackpot, as with their other jackpot games is completely random.
May the Force (And the Luck) Be with You
We love a good sci fi theme, so we were curious to see how Arrow’s Edge would deal with their own version of this popular genre. Considering they’ve got highly popular slots such as NetEnt’s Space Wars to contend with, we expected all the stops to be pulled out on this one.
Unfortunately, we’ve been disappointed. The graphics here are of a considerably lower quality than some of their other games. While in other games such as Showcase we’ve appreciated their hand drawn, cartoonish style, here it just comes across as poor artwork and lacklustre animation to match.
OK, so the music is an appropriate choice and the symbols of various aliens, spaceships and galactic fighters are also a perfect fit, the graphics just really let it down. Perhaps some of the other features might compensate.
The Technical Stuff
This 5 reel, 20 payline jackpot slot game offers a maximum payout of 1,000 coins but is also linked to a progressive jackpot, which can drop anytime, completely at random. Bet amounts are between 0.01 and 12.00 per line, or 0.20 and 240.00 when all paylines are active, so amounts to suit any player on any budget and for a very small cost, the chance to win a full progressive jackpot.
There are 12 symbols here, including game characters with their own names such as Lance, Tobias, Korbont and Crystaley accompanied by items such as starships and a planet. Considering the poor quality graphics, plenty of attention has been given to naming each one of the symbols. We’ve included their proper names in the pay table below but if you need clarify which we’re referring to, just click on info when running the game to view all the available symbols.
Trio to Look out For
There are 3 symbols of interest here for the features; the Tobias Bonus Symbol, the Crystaley Scatter and the Lance Spinning Wild. The Spinning Wild will award you with a multiplier whenever it appears on the reels, of either 1x, 2x or 3x.
However, it also allows you to access the bonus features when combined with the Tobias Bonus symbol, becoming a spinning wild and showing you either the training scene, fighting scene or the battle bonus feature. When appearing in combination with the Crystaley Scatter symbol, it can also increase the free spins you’re awarded, from the standard 10 when she appears 3 times to up to 30.
The training scene is a classic pick a prize feature, the fighting scene allows you to pick a character for battle and the Battle Bonus game gives you the chance to shoot at enemy ships; the more you down, the bigger your prize. These little bonus games are better than you might find on similar slots and for us go some way to compensating for the lacklustre graphics.
Prepare for Battle on the Star Slots
Overall, this is a themed slot which offers the chance to win 1,000 coins and the chance to land a progressive jackpot. Despite our grumbles about the graphics, the extra features here make this a fun game to play for the sci fi and slot enthusiast alike.
