Frog Hunter Slots
Frog Hunter is an immersive 5-reel video slot from top-of-the-line casino developer Betsoft. The high-quality, jungle-themed slot is known for its crisp, video game-style graphics and well-paying symbols, as well as multipliers and a fun bonus game.
This one’s very much a modern take on the traditional 5-reel video slot, and the developers have clearly worked hard to design a title that is as much about the enjoyability factor as the pecuniary one. In this vein, there are convincing sound effects – the chirrup of cicadas and crickets, the harrumphing of frogs – as well as excellent animations. Without further ado, let’s break down this high resolution Betsoft video slot.
Entering the jungle
Frog Hunter’s 5x3 reel grid appears in a darkened jungle, with plenty of green leaves shrouding the board. The game title appears above the grid, and numbers either side represent the paylines in the game. There are only 5 paylines in Frog Hunter, although they are configurable: just click on the and - buttons at the bottom of the screen. In this game, players can play with coins between the value of 0.2 and 5.
When you’re on the home screen, click the Options tab in the upper right corner to switch off the game audio or activate turbo play. You can also disable the expandicon or vary the graphical quality of the game (low/medium/high). The rest of the controls are fairly self-explanatory, from Spin to Max Bet and View Pays.
The frog family
In Frog Hunter, there are just nine symbols, including four pieces of fruit, which stand in for playing cards. These include cherries, a lemon, a blackberry and a slice of watermelon. The fruit icons are the lowest value symbols in the game. For instance, the cherry pays just three for three, 10 for four and 50 for five. The lemon is a little better, paying 60 for five, and the blackberry is better again, paying 80 for five.
There are four character symbols, comprising two frogs, a crocodile and a bug-eyed mosquito. The mosquito pays 20 for three, 75 for four and 100 for five, while the croc pays 30 for three, 90 for four and 100 for five. In the frog hierarchy, the grinning, bow-tied male frog is the top dog, paying 60 for three, 90 for four and 100 for five. As you’ll have noticed, there’s not much nuance to the pay-table: all five character symbols pay 100 for five. The male and female frog icons can offer ‘of a kind’ pay-outs though, meaning you can win prizes if you land, say, two male frogs and one female. The pay-table says 25 for three, 80 for four and 100 for five.
To make up for the lack of nuance, Frog Hunter pays out on matching combinations formed from right to left as well as left to right.
Another sweet feature is that you can double or triple wins. After each winning spin, players can click the ‘Double’ or ‘Triple’ buttons and push their luck. When you opt for doubling, you have to guess which of the four same symbols hides your reward. Out of four, there are two with credits. If you choose to triple, you must guess which of the three hides your prize.
The dragonfly bonus
The dragonfly bonus is initiated when a dragonfly pops up on the reel to the right of the male frog, or to the left of the female frog. It might be difficult to remember the exact rules, but the bonus will initiate automatically, so don’t worry. The bonus arrives in the form of a pay-out of 3x total bet, in the case of the dragonfly appearing beside the male frog, and 2x total bet if it appears next to the female frog.
Water lily bonus
A more enticing bonus game is the water lily bonus. This activates when three or more water lily pads occur on adjacent reels. The ultimate goal is to assist the frog as it makes its way across the pond: the player must press on the lily pads, guiding the frog across the body of water. Be careful when you pass the middle row of lily pads, though: there’s a crocodile lurking in the water who skipped breakfast this morning…
Hunting frogs
Frog Hunter may only have 5 paylines, but there’s plenty of joy to be extracted from a game which lets you form pay wins from right to left as well as left to right. Go on: give it a go.
