Rainbow Riches Leapin Leprechauns
The Rainbow riches series from Barcrest is perhaps their best known and most successful set of slot titles and has spawned more than its fair share of copycats as a result, Irish luck has always been a solid popular online slot game theme. The range was recently expanded with the new Rainbow Riches ‘Pick and mix’ slot, and now capitalising on the franchises popularity, we see Barcrest release their first ever instant win style game.
Leapin Leprechauns bypasses the traditional scratchcard game format of instant win titles and instead presents a basic interactive animated game, reminiscent to video game players of the original RPG titles many played when they were younger. Whilst Leprechauns are known for their luck, they aren’t so famous for athletic ability, will you jump into the skies to claim your rewards or will you step off this platform game and back to one of its slot based sisters?
This game starts with our intrepid Leprechaun hero on a hilltop ledge, overlooking a glorious summer valley, floating in the air in front of him are five platforms of green earth, you must leap through all 5 to pick up an instant random cash prize. As a variation on matching symbols in a scratchgame goes, as a premise, this is more interesting and builds anticipation as you near the last jumps.
Atop each platform is a symbol, horseshoes, balloons. hearts and the magic hat all grant power-ups, A black cat, the number 13, a cracked mirror or platform and a snake form obstacles which will require a stored power-up to overcome, otherwise, game over. Collect a pot of gold on top of any platform on route for extra credit prizes.
The basic game structure is simple, as this is an instant win game you have no line controls, it is simply a case of choosing a bet value and quite literally taking a leap of faith using the on screen character. Of course, as an instant win title, there is no free spins, normal slot game features or bonus rounds to be had.
Summary
I have never been a huge fan of scratch titles, this game seems to sit somewhere between them and slots and that is either a very good idea, or a very bad one. I’m not sure, it’s going to be one for the players to decide, as the game isn’t released in its final version yet, hopefully the win animations, music and sound effects add enough to the gameplay to appeal to slots players as well as instant win gamers.
