Yellow Brick Reels Slot
It looks like we’re off to see the wizard with this Wizard of Oz themed slot from Arrow’s Edge, not to be confused with the game of the same name from competitor Playstudios.
The classic musical film from MGM, starring a young Judy Garland continues to be popular to this day, with its endearing characters and wholesome message, making it one of the most well known movies of all time and perhaps the first real family film. Because we all know ‘there’s no place like home’.
The bright technicolor film is truly iconic and along with the excellent soundtrack is no doubt what makes this film popular even 75 years later. It’s amazing to think when you watch that Judy Garland’s own daughter (Liza Minelli) is now elderly.

We’re off to See the Wizard!
The style of this slot is simplistic cartoon, looking very much like artwork you might find in a dated children’s book. We’re not sure if this was intentional but fortunately it does suit the theme, although admittedly we would have liked to see some higher quality design, which is something the Playstudios take on this theme can boast as an advantage.
However, overlooking the artwork we were pleased to see the theme incorporates all our favourite characters as symbols including Dorothy (of course), the Wicked Witch, Scarecrow, Tin Man, Toto, Good Witch Glenda and naturally the Wizard of Oz himself. Other symbols include Dorothy’s spinning house, the yellow brick road and the evil flying monkeys, all part of the theme.
Our major disappointment is that we don’t have any music to accompany the game, the addition of one of the songs from the film or something similar would have really given this game the extra special touch to compensate for the graphics.
The Technical Wizardry
This 5 reel, 25 payline game offer the chance to win a top prize of 5000 coins. You can choose coin values between 0.01 to 250.00, so a nice big range to suit all players and including the ability to adjust the number of active paylines.
Dorothy is the Wild symbol here, substituting all symbols apart from the Scatter, which is the Wizard of Oz. The top value symbol is the lion, who when landed on all 5 reels will unlock the 5,000 coin jackpot. The values of all the symbols are listed in the pay table below.
Wizard of OZ
We’re glad to see that there is a bonus game to enjoy on this slot, as otherwise it might be a little flat. The Wizard of Oz Scatter symbol triggers a bonus game when landed on 3 or more reels, transporting you to a dark forest where you must click on gleaming eyes until you track down the Wizard, winning a maximum of 20 free spins depending on how quickly you succeed.
Once you’ve tracked him down, you’ll also receive a multiplier of up to 8x, which applies to any winning combinations including the Dorothy Wild when using the free spins. If you land the Scatter wild again during these free spins then the bonus game can be retriggered, giving you more free spins.
Follow the Yellow Brick Reels
Overall, despite the simplistic artwork we like this slot. The theme has been followed to the T, although we would have loved to have some music to accompany the play experience considering how iconic the soundtrack to the original movie is.
The maximum payout of 5,000 coins is a nice and generous amount and the chance of hitting the progressive jackpot also adds appeal. We enjoyed the attention to detail in incorporating all the main characters into the symbols of the game rather than using the generic characters such as 9, 10, A, K etc.
A thoroughly enjoyable game which more than makes up for the low quality artwork. We’d definitely encourage players to take a trip to the Yellow Brick Reels themselves!
