Dumb & Dumber Slot Machine
A bit of pop trivia for you slot fans, did you know that Jeff Daniels was offered a measly fifty grand to play his part in the iconic film against Jim Carrey’s seven million? This was because some people felt he wasn’t suited to the role and wanted him to turn it down, thankfully he didn’t and we got one of the silliest comedies of the early nineties, can the slot love up to its movie namesake?
It does have a hard task, Dumb and Dumber was filled with slapstick action not seen since the days of films such as Caddyshack, which ironically, also recently produced a slot. Grab your popcorn and take a seat as we ride with the boys in the dog van to see if this slot delivers the goods to Aspen!
Theme
Clearly as this is an official slot, the reels are jam-packed with all your favourite characters from the film, Harry & Lloyd themselves are not only the highest paying symbols and available stacked, they also form one of the games wilds. Meanwhile, Mary, the kidnappers and a host of famous stage props fill out the rest on offer, no playing card symbols here!
The music and sound effects are great, with montages of music from the films score, sound effects and perky little soundbites and memorable lines from the cast, even the big win sequences get in on the silliness, being named ‘bigger win’ and ‘more bigger win’ in a nod to the stupidity of the characters.
Gameplay & Features
Aristocrat haven’t skimped on the game itself either, the reel set is an unusual 3/4/4/4/3 setup and is built onto the same cabinet as the new Superman and Batman slots with huge spinning bonus wheels above the game screen and a central overhead monitor for big video sequences.
The game isn’t in its final release yet so we can’t confirm bet sizing, range or jackpot potential, the variance however is firmly in the medium range which should appeal to a multitude of players.
In addition to the wild symbols offered in the base game, there is another random type, wonderfully enacted by a ketchup and mustard bottle which squirt random wilds onto the screen during your spin before the reels come to a stop. This sequence really shows off the vibrant cartoon style graphics used here.
Three of the dog van bonus scatters will earn you a spin of the bonus wheel above the main game reels, here you can earn three bonuses, the Aspen Free Spins, Dante’s Inferno, Mary’s Big Wheel or simply a large instant credit win.
Both the bonus pick feature itself and the individual bonus rounds have their own video cut scenes which help immerse you in the game much more. Our favourite bonus game was the Aspen free spins, where snowballs hurled at the screen turn symbols randomly wild, a big win then comes up on the screen printed on an IOU note, a simple touch, but one totally in key with the theme.
Summary
Dumb and Dumber manages to be an entertaining slot which does justice to its theme, it isn’t over silly, it isn’t boring either, even the base game is very playable and the slot manages to fit neatly into the middle ground of pleasing both film fans and slot players alike.
As with the Downton Abbey slot game, Aristocrat have shown once again that they aren’t to be underestimated for official machine tie in’s and are perfectly capable of competing with companied like IGT in this genre.
