Conan the Barbarian Slots
Conan the Barbarian is a 5-reel video slot from the Amaya gaming platform. The video slot, which can be played on between one and nine paylines, might not be as epic as the eponymous movie starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, but it’s pretty damn thrilling nonetheless.
Conan the Barbarian is the world’s first and only Conan slot, and part of the Crazy Jackpots series (“nine crazy jackpots to be won!”). Of course, the amount you wager per line determines the exact size of the progressive jackpot to be won: play at max bet, and you’ll be looking at a serious pay-out.
In Conan the Barbarian, coin values range between 0.05 to 5 per line, making the maximum bet-per-spin a respectable 45. As such, the title is accessible to a wide range of gamers. The colourful, blood-spattered slot includes both wild and scatter symbols and a unique bonus round. What are you waiting for? Swing that sword and start slaying your enemies.
A few simple rules
A few rules to get out of the way: the highest win amount is paid on each selected payline; scatter wins are multiplied by total bet and added to regular payline wins; feature wins are added to scatter and payline wins; and all win combinations pay from left to right, except in the case of the scatter logo.
Phew, now we’ve got the rules out of the way, it’s time to discuss the game itself and how it compares to other 5-reel titles. The first thing to be said is if you’re against violence, you should probably pick another game! Conan is characterised by blood and gore; warrior helmets, evil sorcerers, battle shields and helmets. Pacifists truly need not apply.
The graphics, incidentally, are reminiscent of the original Conan comics, which means our titular hero is not in fact Arnie himself (more’s the pity). The graphics are not photorealistic, but they are well rendered and colourful, and the control panel along the bottom of the screen is exhaustive, putting the power in your hands.
Conan characters
Symbols in Conan include Conan (obviously), a ‘Conan’ logo scatter, an evil green sorcerer, an attractive female, a blue sorcerer, a golden battle helmet and playing cards, including Ace, King, Queen, Jack and 10.
Conan is the wild, able to substitute for others to help you form matching combinations. It cannot, however, stand in for the scatter, though it pays 50 for three, 200 for four and the grand (progressive) prize for five. The scatter pays in any configuration, unlike the other symbols, and all you have to do is land two to five logos on the screen. The prizes offered are multiples of the total bet, not of the line bet, and they top out at 100x for five.
There are several linked ‘of a kind’ symbols in Conan. Both the temptress and the blue sorcerer are linked, paying 20 for three, 25 for four and 250 for five, and the gold helmet is linked with the ace icon. These two pay 12 for three, 20 for four and 200 for five. The King and Queen symbols are also linked, as are the Jack and 10.
The green sorcerer, meanwhile, pays 30 for three, 100 for four and 750 for five.
Cave of Skulls Bonus
The result of three or more scatter icons appearing isn’t limited to a pay-out prize: you’ll get to play a bonus game as well, which takes place in a darkened cave. A collection of skulls (15, to be precise) is shown to you next, each hanging by a chain. The player will get to tell Conan, who stands poised with his sword, exactly which skull should be smashed to the ground. As you smash the skulls, you’ll win multipliers and prizes contained within, until you find one which laughs derisively at you, at which point you’ll be catapulted back into the main game.
Top prize
The slot’s top prize is worth around 3,750, but as stated, the Crazy Jackpots are also available. These are progressive prizes that vary in value depending on the line where they’ve been won.
Conan the swordsman
Conan the Barbarian is a solid offering from Amaya, one which should most appeal to comic book or action movie fans. While the pay-outs aren’t spectacular, the bonus game is fun and you can configure however many paylines suits you. Give it a go and see if you can bring down the house.
